This is a continuation from my vlog on Tuesday about my pet peeves. After such a great response I decided to tell you a few of my favorites from the many people that insist on telling me how to parent my child.

So, what is the craziest parenting advice you have gotten without asking?

I have applaud your control with the woman about the Metrocard. Seriously, I don’t think I could have been so gracious. Wow and the one about them putting the hat/gloves on her that’s crossing the line. People here are nuts!

Hi! I really enjoy reading your blog 🙂 This reminds me of when we first moved to NYC from AZ and our doorman would say ” its cold out put your hat on or you’re no longer on the West Coast” every time we left the apt. He did not see the huge meltdown and throwing of all winter wear on the ground…ugh. So one morning I just handed over my sons hat and gloves and told him here ” you try”…lol. Lets just say he has never said it again. It is nice to know I am not the only mom who seems to notice this in NYC 🙂

I meant to put it through twitter but not sure how.

I had a(n of course able-bodied guy) on the Subway elevator the other day tell me, “Your kid is too old to still be using a stroller.” My son is 22 months old, so I angry-sarcastically said to him, “He’s only ONE.” What, would it be more responsible to have my toddler running around on a Subway platform? And of course I’ve also gotten the glove/hat comment in the winter time, and the “Your child should be wearing a sunhat” in the summer. No matter how good a job you’re doing, you can never win with some people!

OMG I would probably get arrested if I lived in the city because I’d totally lose my temper with those people!! It really does seem to be unique to NY though…I haven’t encountered it here or when I was out in Denver!

I cannot believe that lady told you that you didn’t care for you daughter! People are so rude and weird…and have more opinions about parenting when they have no clue what they are talking about! And referring to your daughter as “that”…really? People have no tact!

1. I cannot believe anyone would address you to begin with, but then to 2. argue with you after her initial comment?! That woman’s got a problem much bigger than a kid chewing on a subway card!

I’ve gotten more advice than I can even remember!! Just the other day a woman in a coffee shop informed me that she never gives her (2 year old) sugar. He doesn’t even know what a “treat” is!! This was as Peanut consumed a cookie. I told her that’s great. And moved on. New Yorkers need to learn how to keep their mouths shut!

You handled that woman on the bus VERY well. I’m sure you were steaming. The fact that she kept it going, even after you addressed her the first time, is what kills me.

And omg, how old is “that”? I would be angry as well.

And love the audacity of people coming up and putting on Harlan’s gloves or hat. New Yorkers are so ballsy!

Yes, totally outlandish! lol

I can’t not believe these. They touch her?? Sadly, I think the response in New York is a firm, “Mind your business!”

This sort of thing only happened to me once when I was at the Apple store after my iPhone died. I had his rain cover over him and he was screaming and a woman came over and made small talk, then inquired as to whether he could breath with it on.

I would’ve gone nutty on that woman about the metro card. Glad you said something! Seriously, people need to shut up sometimes!
