Since becoming pregnant here in NYC, I’ve learned that they are a lot more thorough than my doctor ever was in Tampa. We have had an ultrasound every time I have gone to the doctor and I’ve had two major ultrasounds already.

I only had three ultrasounds with Harlan. The third I had to beg my doctor for towards the end of the pregnancy because I kept having dreams that she was really a boy and we had already bought so many girls clothes and painted her room pink. He obliged {probably because he thought I was crazy and just wanted me to stop asking him.}

I go in for another big ultrasound in 4 weeks. That means that I will have had an ultrasound on this little one every two weeks since I was 6 weeks pregnant. Crazy, right? I personally am loving it because I get to see the little one almost all the time and it makes me feel a lot more connected, especially since I can’t feel any movements yet.

This morning was my routine 16 week anatomical ultrasound. MacKay, Harlan and I walked into the ultrasound room. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest, I was so anxious. Harlan was so excited to be back to see the “baby on TV.” I think MacKay was a little anxious and excited as he remained quiet most of the time. As I sat down getting warm gel poured on my stomach the technician asked if we wanted to know the sex today. I think I answered yes before she even got the entire question out.

As she started her exam she looked at the baby’s heart, face, head, brain, stomach….everything except for down below!

Finally after what felt like forever she made her way down to the legs and bottom half. As I looked up at the screen trying to determine for myself what it looked like, I was brought back to the ultrasound room almost 3 years ago when we were finding out the sex of Harlan. I remember looking at the ultrasound machine and the hearing the technician say “it’s a girl” for the first time.

Today I looked up at the screen, saw a familiar image and heard the technician say “it’s a girl” for the second time in my life.

I shouted “I knew it!” as MacKay sat there with a smile on his face and a probably a little bit stunned {he thought it was a boy, remember?}

We told Harlan there she was going to have a baby sister and that there was a girl in my belly, her first words were, “woo hoo!” I think she is just a tad bit excited. 😉 I pray that she and her sister will grow up just as close as my sister and I did.

The doctor came in after and told us that everything looks great and we have a healthy baby girl!

MacKay and I couldn’t be more happy and excited. We aren’t sure about names yet, but because Harlan is a family name, we would like to continue that tradition.

For now, I am just sitting on cloud nine, knowing that, soon, there will be two little girls in our house instead of one.

Congrats!!! I have three kids and each one we found out what the sex is and would love when the tech would announce it. Total goosebump moment! We are planning on having another one in the next few years and I think we are going to wait until the baby is born to find out, but not sure I can wait that long!
