I remember the first couple of weeks after bringing Harlan home from the hospital were exhausting. Everyone tells you to get your sleep before the baby comes but we all know that never really happens. We are so excited to hold that beautiful baby in our arms that sleep is the last thing from our minds.

Fast forward to when the baby arrives and I’d do anything just to get in a 15 minute nap. Harlan was a really tough sleeper. She had really bad colic which kept her up screaming until all hours of the morning. MacKay and I would switch taking turns bouncing her in the car seat carrier up and down our hallway. I didn’t know the true meaning of sleep deprived until she was born. She didn’t start sleeping through the night until nine months old.

I know that I was part of the reason that it took her so long to sleep through the night. She slept in my room next to me because MacKay was living in New York City at the time and I didn’t want her at the other end of our house with just the two of us.

When I found out I was pregnant with Avery I tried to prepare myself the best that I could for the lack of sleep. If you know me at all, you know that I love my sleep. I had just gotten used to sleeping through the night again and I had to prepare myself for getting very little sleep in the next coming months.

Avery’s second night in the hospital she slept for six hours straight. I woke up expecting the nurses to bring her into my room to nurse and when I buzzed they told me she was still sleeping. It was at that point that I had to tell them to wake her up so that I could feed her. Although I was very happy that she slept that long, I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I went home preparing for long sleepless nights just like her big sister had give us a few years before.

To our surprise, Avery’s sleep pattern pretty much stayed the same. She was consistently sleeping through the night at four months and we haven’t looked back since.

It’s amazing how much sleep can have an impact on your life when you become a mom. Sleep is always a big topic of conversation around my fellow mom friends. We like to exchange tips and tricks for getting our little ones to sleep through the night, no matter what the age.

Pampers understands a parent’s need to share our sleep secrets and that is why they are hosting the Pampers “Sweet Sleep Time” twitter party! I’m so excited to join my fellow bloggers, Louise and Kate, along with Pampers and She Speaks for this informative party with great prizes.

We’ve used Pampers since day one with both girls and I am happy to say that their diapers have never interferred with their sleep. That’s because Pampers Baby Dry diapers offer three layers of absorbency (compared to two layers in other leading brands), which help keep baby dry with up to 12 hours of overnight protection.

I hope you will join me as we share photos, as well as tried n’ true sleep time tips and rituals, with other parents. We will  be giving away prizes along the way including Pampers Baby Dry diapers and other products that are ideal for an uninterrupted night of sleep!

One lucky grand prize winner will win a year’s supply of Pampers Baby Dry diapers, a 6 month supply of Pampers Wipes, and a $300 gift card to Pottery Barn Kids to help create your little one’s perfect sleep environment.

The best tip I would give to parents would be have a routine-dinner, bath, story and bed. It really helped when my kids were younger. They associated nighttime baths with winding down and getting ready for bed. So, I started to see less and less resistance to going to sleep.

best tip is no late naps

My best tip would be to swaddle your baby, it really helps them sleep longer.

Stay on schedule and stick to a routine. That way they know that night/sleep time is next and their body will be ready!

A mobile is great to lull a little babe to sleep

my kids like a routine. I think it really helps when putting them to bed

Start swaddling right when your baby is born and don’t stop! Helps baby stay asleep for longer periods of time 🙂

Routine is key to getting any kind of schedule! Half of dinner, bath, baby massage and PJ’s, and then the rest of her dinner with a book is our’s! (Sometimes we have to split up her meal so she is calm for her bath)

Phoenix and now Austin sleep for long periods when swaddled.

The one sleep tip I would give is to pick a routine and stay with it.

My sleep tip is to establish a consistent first feeding time of the day, then the rest of the days schedule will rotate around it.

Try to set a routine as early as possible. Try to get your little one to settle down prior to taking them to their room. A good story, song, and prayers work for us. Nice warm pajamas and a comfy bed helps too.

Sleep when your baby sleeps, the housework can wait!

A tight swaddle and a hat and the perfect room temperature!

Definitely to swaddle, we used Woombies and loved them. I also want to try Aden + Anais swaddles for the next baby!

I would have to say stick to what is working! My daughter was sleeping 7+ hours in a pack n play at 3 months. We moved and I brought her to bed with me full time for a couple of weeks and it has been a nightmare ever since (13 months later!). Stay consistent!

Have a bedtime routine. A warm bath, followed by a soft book, like Goodnight Moon or the Going to Bed book, followed by a feeding. Keep the lights dim and your voice soft.

Go at your own pace & savor the moments

Sleep when your baby sleeps! Don’t try to do laundry, dishes, etc. Sleep!

I would advise to keep the same schedule every night. We read, give a bath, put on pjs, pray, ring a bell and then put our daughter down to sleep. She loves it and expects it each night.

Rest when the baby rests and don’t stay up too late after baby is asleep.

Don’t get too frustrated. My LO could sense when i was about to break down from lack of sleep. When I relaxed he started sleeping through the night at 3 months old!

My sleep tip would be if the baby is sleeping, try to rest or sleep. Also accept the help of others so that you can rest. Those sleep deprived nights can be exhausting!

Sleep when baby sleeps 🙂

Swaddle.

Wake baby up at the same time each morning to help set a good schedule. Sounds counterintuitive, but it works.

Reply

Get them on a schedule as soon as possible and put them down before they are asleep, that way they learn to put themselves back to sleep in the middle of the night.

My son was not a good sleeper but I tried to go to bed at the same time he did!

Take solace in knowing it’s just for a season — you can make it through a few months!

My one tip would be create a routine at an early age because structure really makes things easier for everyone.

Reply

45 minutes before bed, start winding down with a short video or stories

Keep your baby dry and swaddled so they sleep longer at night!

My sleep tip is keeping a routine – we started ours when he was weeks old and I think it has helped us so much as he’s gotten older.

Also – the only swaddle that my son couldn’t get out of was a Miracle Blanket, totally helped him sleep better!

My sleep tip is a bath shortly before bedtime. It always seems to wind them down and help them sleep better
