Growing up we never had a real Christmas tree, so when we moved to the city and had no where to actually store ours, I was giddy with excitement that we actually had to purchase a real, live tree every year.
Right around Thanksgiving the sidewalks of NYC are lined with Christmas tree vendors. It makes walks much more magical and emits the smell of Christmas into the air.
Last Saturday we walked over to the local vendor that we’ve gotten our tree from every year. It took Harlan and Avery about 20 seconds before they found he tree that they wanted to take home.
This was Avery’s first year really experiencing our Christmas tree tradition and she loved getting to participate in the festivities!
That night we lit the second candle of our advent wreath we made at church, put on some Christmas music, got into our pajamas and started decorating the tree.
Can you tell Avery was just a little bit excited to decorate?
The girls loved helping MacKay string the lights on the tree. Har’s been the helper for this task for years now and she gets better every year.
Avery decided that the beads for the tree would look much better decorated on her than on the tree.
She also thought that posing for the camera was really fun too. This girl’s personality is really starting to come through lately and she always has us laughing. I love it.
The girls helped me put the ornaments on the tree and Harlan asked a question about every single one we put on (she’s very inquisitive these days.) Avery put the ornaments on and then would immediately take them off. As we speak there are four ornaments on the floor that she’s already taken off this morning. I think it might be time to only decorate the top half and leave the bottom with just lights. Gotta love the holiday season with a toddler. 😉
Hope you are enjoying your holiday season!!!
