This winter is already proving to do a number to my skin. Between the cold, dry air outside and my heater drying out the air inside, our entire family is left with dry and itchy skin. Thankfully I’ve found the best way to keep my skin feeling moisturized all day long and it’s really easy. Here are my five tips:
1. Find a moisturizer you love. Everyone has different skin types, so it’s important to find a moisturizer that works best for you. I’ve long been a fan of Aveeno products and have used them to help with Macks’ eczema. It only made sense that I follow his lead and use the brand for myself. I love Aveeno® Daily Moisturizing Lotion. The lotion is clinically proven to improve the health of dry skin in just 1 day. I keep it in our bathroom so that MacKay and I can both use it. MacKay has sensitive skin, so this is great for him because it’s fragrance free.
2. Moisturize immediately after a shower. This is a tip I took from Macks’ doctor that he recommended to help with his eczema. Help keep the moisture trapped in your skin by apply the lotion immediately after getting out of the shower. Its the first thing that I do when I get out. I’ve definitely noticed a difference since I’ve started doing this.
3. Cover up. Another way to trap in that moisture from the lotion is to wear clothes that cover your skin. I wear socks at night, gloves when I go outside and pants and long sleeved shirts.
4. Moisturize often. My theory is that you can never moisturize too much during the winter. I do it a couple of times a day, usually in the morning after my shower, mid-day, and at night before bed. I also do it each time after I wash my hands. That’s why its a great idea to keep moisturizer next to your hand soap.
5. Don’t forget key areas. Don’t ignore the areas on your body that tend to get extra dry and moisturie them more often. Your hands, feet, and elbows are prone to getting very dry during the winter, so make sure to take extra care of those.
