Having kids has really put a damper on my date nights. As much as MacKay and I would love to go out once a week for just the two of us, it’s just not practical at this stage in our lives.
Harlan has really started to get some separation anxiety when I leave her with a sitter. She reminds me of myself at her age and the fact that I would scream and throw a fit anytime my parents left the house. That’s exactly what she’s started to do lately. Instead of me enjoying myself all night, I am constantly checking my phone and texting the sitter to see how she’s doing. I end up putting a damper on our night because I am being “that mom” and we go home feeling unfulfilled.
Rather than spending a fortune on date nights, only to feel completely guilty and consumed by missing the girls, I’ve decided to get a little creative with our date nights. For starters, our date nights don’t leave the house. That way I have nothing to feel guilty about and we don’t have to spend money on babysitters. Once we put the girls to bed, our date nights have officially begun!
