2014 has proved to be the year of the unexpected. I always love taking a look back to see just how blessed we have been this year. The years seem to go by quicker and quicker as I get older and with the swiftness of the days comes little time to look back and reflect.
The first part of the year brought both joy and sadness. Avery started walking in January and was leaving the baby stage right before our eyes. In February we lost my grandmother, the first person really close to me to ever pass away. Shortly after MacKay’s grandmother passed as well.
We had a chance to escape the cold winter here in New York City for a family cruise to the Caribbean. It was so nice and relaxing to go on a trip with just the four of us. March was a big month for Avery because she turned one year old! We celebrated our baby girl at our apartment with family and friends. Avery loved having cake for the first time and having all of the attention on her for a day.
The spring brought us warmer weather and adventures to Florida. We took the girls to Disney World for Avery’s first trip and the first time Harlan could really grasp the greatness of it all. While we were down there the girls and I spent time at my parent’s house for my little brother’s high school graduation. It’s so hard to believe that he is an adult and already away at college.
The summer brought the biggest news of all. We learned that our family would be growing again and that we were expecting our third child. It was completely unexpected, yet exactly what we needed. It was hard keeping it a secret from family and friends for so long, especially as sick as I was, but I loved the way that we shared the news.
Fall is always one of my favorite times of the year and with a new little one on the way, we made sure to make the most of our time with our two girls. We learned that our newest Jimeson would be a baby boy and take on the name sake of my husband. Harlan celebrated her fourth birthday and now tells me all the time how close she is to turning five.
The girl’s relationship has flourished this year. It is truly incredible to watch them interact with one another. They have so much love between the two of them, it’s magical.
As the winter season gets well underway, we are spending more and more time as a family and patiently waiting for our little guy to make his arrival. We are soaking up all that this city has to offer, especially during the holiday season. It was our first year getting to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person, we got to spend Christmas in the city with family and are now waiting to ring in the new year with just the four of us.
The new year brings a lot of uncertainty and new adventures for our family. Our time in the city may be coming to an end and we will have to adjust from a family of four to one of five. But no matter what 2014 brings, I am confident it will be filled with the love of our family.
2014, can’t wait to see what you have in store for us!
Happy New Year!

Any year that brings the birth of one of your children is a big year, so I expect 2014 will be a great one for you! I had my second in 2013, which makes it a special year, but as I said in my recent post, 2014 has so much promise. Happy New Year!
