Macks is finally finding a little bit of a routine during the day and I’ve somehow managed to get him and Avery on the same afternoon nap schedule. Although he doesn’t sleep as long Avery does, it’s still nice to have an hour of alone time with Harlan. She starts kindergarten in the Fall and as hard as it is for me to believe, I have come to the realization that our time together during the day will quickly pass once she’s a full fledged kindergartener. So to take advantage of the time we do have together this summer, we spend our afternoons hanging out while the other two sleep.

Sometimes we have special “secret” treats that we don’t tell Avery or Macks about. Other times we sit and do an art project together or even just sit outside and relax and talk. Har could go for hours telling stories and I love listening to just how far her imagination can take her. It’s quite incredible how much she’s grown into such a little lady.

A little lady that loves to wear dresses. Whether we are in the backyard eating a popsicle or reading a book, she always wants to wear a dress.

I was recently approached by Smokks, a company who makes “clothes they can handle.”  Creator Hallie Burton was inspired by the idea to start Smokks for her daughter. She wanted a line that was easy for anyone to mix and match, but also had things that little girls wanted (like pockets and no buttons to get their hair caught in.) I fell in love with the Liberty of London prints and the durability of these gorgeous dresses. Harlan has worn them several times this summer and they have withstood all of her adventures.

Even these backyard adventures that her and I take everyday.

One of her favorite things to do is to try to read books. She can read some words, but that doesn’t discourage her from trying to read everything. She will often ask to read a book to me. As she starts to read, she gets giddy with excitement and says “Yay! I’m almost a five year old!” She’s very obsessed with becoming five, lately.

She’s always asking me how to spell words so that she can write them down and will try to sound out anything that has words on it. I am so proud of her for making this big step! I love her passion for learning.

I’m so grateful for these afternoons with Har. No matter what adventure we take, it’s perfect having Har by my side.
