My guest post today is by Katie from Being 5. I speak with Katie regularly on twitter but have never have the pleasure of meeting her in real life. She is great to talk to and the nicest person! I love reading about her life on the other side of the country! I think she is going to tell you a little it about that now!
When A Mommy in the City said that she was looking for people to fill in while she was on vacation, I jumped at the chance. But admittedly, this is my first time writing on another person’s blog and oh my goodness, it’s a bit nerve-wracking. I feel like we’re on a blind date right now. Sweaty hands. I keep pulling at my dress. Trying not to drink too much wine. Okay. Deep breath. Here we go…
I’m a loyal Mommy in the City reader, creator of the blog Being5, freelance writer and mother of three. Although raising kids in Seattle is still a far cry from raising kids in New York, it’s still quite an adventure. Seattle is a city built around neighborhoods – where we live is just five-minutes from the heart of downtown, but I feel like we’re in the suburbs with neighbors that we know and love, our amazing public school just blocks away and a true sense of community within this huge city. (Have you been to Seattle? Do tell!)
One of the most popular posts that I write on Being5 is my late night insomniac posts of random thoughts. Since I’m having such a horrible time picking the perfect topic for my guest post, I thought that I’d just share some of these randoms with you as well.
Random Thoughts from A Mommy in {Another} City.
My goal for this week is to drink more water each day. I’m going to keep my Starbucks water tumbler filled on my desk all day long. I’m super picky about how I drink my water – it must be from a big plastic cup with lots of ice.
I am completely out of face moisturizer and have been using Everett’s baby lotion instead. Oddly enough, my skin feels amazing!
Seattle has been so rainy this winter and spring. Don’t tell anyone, but on days that I have to be home working, I love it. I open the sliding door that’s next to my desk and inhale the freshness of the rain. Plus, I love wearing my super cute rain boots.
Does anyone else wonder if Lauren has a little bit of a Southern accent?
I keep hearing that pie is the new cupcake. Can anyone confirm that? There are little cute pie shops popping up all around Seattle right now.
My TiVo is insanely full right now. I am a TV lover, but have been too tired in the evenings to watch. I haven’t been reading much lately either and feel horrible about that. I seriously have guilt about not reading enough.
I’m cheating on my hair guy next week. As much as I am in love with him and what he does for my hair, I feel like I’m in a rut and need to switch it up. Plus, the salon where he is feels too sparse for me. There isn’t a lot of time that I’m away from my kids during the week, so when I get the chance to go pamper myself, I want to be somewhere super luxurious.
My girls are on Spring Break next week and I am going to plan some crafty projects for us to really dig into – I’m thinking canvas paintings, homemade Easter cards to send to family and cookie decorating. What are you go-to blogs for kids’ crafts?
I just found out that Carolyn Kennedy is doing a reading and book signing in Seattle tomorrow night and I’m so tempted to go. I’ve never been to a book signing and wonder how long I would be standing in line… Like, should I bring a tall latte or a venti?
My latest fashion addiction – denim trousers.
My 13-month old son insists on taking a toy to bed with him. It has to be a different toy each time, although a train is often a popular choice. Maybe this is a boy thing…
I slept in until 10:30 this morning, which is unheard of in our house. My sleep-in was probably sponsored by granola bars and Toy Story 3 on Netflix. I didn’t even mind picking up the wrappers and crumbs on the couch after I got up!
When I ordered groceries today, I added in a bouquet of pretty flowers. There’s something about having fresh flowers around the house that makes my mood lighter.
Here’s the hardest part about doing random thoughts posts – picking the last random thought! So instead, I’ll leave you with my favorite quote. I heard it on Oprah years ago, when we were trying to have a second baby and had just miscarried. I needed this reminder then and continue to need it on occasion…
Nothing new can come into your life until you learn to appreciate what you already have.
Okay, everyone. It was so nice to meet you all and I hope you didn’t mind this random post on what is such a tidy blog! Maybe I shouldn’t have had that second glass of wine…
xoxo to you all. Come over to Being5 and say hello anytime. I’d love to have you and promise to be less nervous on my home turf!
Katie.

It’s totally a boy thing! My son does the same thing. Every night he has to take a toy to bed.

Hey Katie! Followed you over from your blog to read my fav random blog posts! Have to add an idea: A friend started an easter/spring tradition of taking her kids to a Paint-Your-Own-Pottery and had them paint easter eggs. She puts their new one in their Easter basket every year and decorates the house with the previous years. I loved this idea…but never got around to it this year. Thought it would be a fun spring break idea for you.
