So often people tell me how big or tall Harlan has gotten since they last saw her. It is so hard for me to tell because I am with her everyday and don’t see the subtle changes in her appearance. It didn’t become obvious to me how big she really is getting until just recently.

Last weekend Harlan was laying in bed with MacKay and I watching a DVD that showed all kinds of animals. As each new animal would come up on screen Harlan would look at both os us with awe in her eyes and say, “look!” while pointing at the TV. It was as if she was seeing these things for the first time. Some animals she knew and some she didn’t. Those she knew she would say, “Look a tiger! Woah!” She was fascinated throughout the entire thing.

As the week progressed she has only gotten more and more observant. She noticed the constant sounds of sirens outside her window, the airplanes in the air, the baby crying in the apartment above us. You can see the amazement on her face as she points to her observation and says the word, “look!”

MacKay and I were talking last night just how much we’ve noticed her “growing up” in the past week. He caught her counting to ten last night after seeing numbers I wrote for her on a piece of paper, she’s really starting to put sentences together and have conversations with us. When I brought up to him that she is constantly telling me to “look” at things wherever we go, he said that she is just mimicking what we have taught her.

It’s true, we have always been her observers telling her to “look” at all of the interesting things we see around us. Now that she is getting older, she just wants to share her discovery of the world around her with those that she loves.

When did you notice your child was really “growing up?”

Peanut was a little slower on the talking than some other children, but since she’s turned two everything has changed – she’s started having mini conversations with us, and like Harlan, observing everything!! It’s so much fun, isn’t it?

Sigh, they grow up so quick don’t they? So much so, it seems that their abilities seem to have appeared overnight. I noticed how my Monkey is now actually listening to what I say, and taking direction of some kind. And I love that he sings along with me, always at the exact point in the song. And that he understands so many more words. And of course, physically, he’s developed in leaps and bounds. Running and climbing. No more a baby, SIGH.

Aww so cute. I love when they start developing and doing new things. I think they’re constantly growing up — Matt and I are always marveling at our kids and what they can do (and say!). So much fun to watch and observe!!!

It’s funny how kids hit their “growth spurts” and learn so many new things at once. It goes too fast…it really does. I’m so excited to watch Ethan learn and grow though so it’s a catch-22.

They grow up too fast–it’s killing me. Todd hung up the onesie that we brought the kiddo home from the hospital in & put it in a shadow box in his room. I took one look at it hanging above his bed & burst into tears. THEY GROW TOO FAST!

i totally know what you mean. i see Cal every day, so I don’t get the impression that she is getting bigger and older. but, when I look back on old pictures of videos, I can see just how much she’s grown and it makes me a little sad!

Cal always wants to push the grocery cart. She would always bump into people because she couldn’t see over the cart. Then, one day I noticed that she could. What?! Where did the time go!

That’s a really cute picture! Rembot was probably around Harlan’s age when I started to notice it. Maybe a little older. When she hit her second birthday, she started talking a mile a minute and hasn’t stopped. Watching older videos REALLY shows me how much my girls have grown. Crazy!

My hubby and I have felt the same way about Mia the past few weeks. The counting, the ABC’s and having some form of conversation with us. She’s putting together sentences and it’s all so amazing! Have a great weekend!
