There is no denying that I have fallen absolutely in love with this city. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to call it home and to have my children grow up here. We’ve lived here for over two years now and I am amazed at how much I am still learning everyday about the places that I visit here.

MacKay and I love to explore new places in and around the city that we have never been. It helps us better understand the place that we live and it is always great for the girls to experience something other than our neighborhood.

I’ve come up with a list of 5 of my favorite things to do in NYC. If you ever have a chance to spend time in this amazing city, my suggestion is to do all of these things! You will fall in love just as much as I have.

(1) Visit Governor’s Island: We took the ferry over to Governor’s Island for Harlan’s birthday and I fell in love. I had no idea how beautiful it was. Governor’s Island was a military base for the U.S. Coast Guard until 1995. Soon after it was sold to the people of New York for public benefit. Now Governor’s Island serves as a place to enjoy art, music, and simply relax. It offers the most spectacular views of New York City.

(2) Take A Food Tour: There are SO MANY tours here in NYC. The most “touristy” ones are the ones that take you around on a big double decker bus around the city. While those can be fun if you have never been, my suggestion is to learn about a part of the city while getting to know their restaurants. NYC has some of the best food in the world. Experience the amazing food and get to know a neighborhood you might not have visited otherwise. I took a food tour of the West Village last year and left with an entirely new outlook on the West Village. The food was amazing and there are still restaurants I tell people about to this day.

(3) Walk the High Line: The High Line is an incredible stretch of elevated park that used to be an old freight rail line on the West Side of Manhattan. There are spots to relax and see the city below. Local artists set up shop and sell stunning pieces. It’s also a great place to get food from local NYC eateries. We’ve taken Harlan and she has loved running around looking at the beautiful landscape as well as great views of the West Side.

(4) Vist Central Park in the Morning: Central Park is one of the most beautiful parks I’ve ever seen. It is a must when you come to the city. The best time to go to the park is early in the morning. It is the most beautiful during that time. During the warmer months, we make it to the park every morning on the weekends to have breakfast and let our dogs run around. Dogs are allowed off leash until 9am in the park and the dogs love to get to run around and get their exercise. The park is so desolate early in the morning and is a great chance to see all of the amazing spots without too many people around.

(5) Go to Eataly: My husband lived in Italy when he was younger and has a love for all things Italian. If you love Italian food as much as we do then Eataly is a must visit place when you come to NYC. It is packed with authentic Italian restaurants, a market to buy amazing Italian food to make at home, and an incredible rooftop beer garden.

I promise you these places will make you fall in love with this city just as much as I have.

Love NY!! I’ve been to Central Park and have certainly explored some of the local restaurants. Hoping to take the kids to see Governor’s Island next summer when we’re up that way for our family reunion.
