I am a believer that it is the traditions that make a holiday special. It’s those things that you did with your family around this time of year, every single year that remain imprinted in your mind. As I have gotten older and started a family of my own, it’s the traditions that I spent growing up that I want to pass on to my girls.
When I was younger, I always looked forward to Christmas Eve night. My mom and dad always let us open one present of our choice. We’d shake each gift that sat underneath the tree to see which one would make the best present to open early.
As we got older, our traditions expanded. We always made sure to make a trip to Orlando to Downtown Disney to see their holiday shops and take a photo with Santa (yes even in our teen years.) It was something that I looked forward to every single year.
Although making a trip to Orlando every year is no longer possible now that we live in NYC, we have made sure to visit Santa every year at Macy’s. The one gift that Harlan get’s to open every year on Christmas Eve is her new holiday pajamas (MacKay’s family had that tradition that we have continued.)
Along with traditions, there are certain things about the holidays that bring you back to your childhood. One thing that always makes me nostalgic of my younger days is Hickory Farms. For more than 60 years Hickory Farms gifts have been a classic holiday tradition that brings family and friends together.
My mom was (and still is) a Hickory Farms lover during the holiday season. Every year our house was filled with the Hickory Farms Melt Away Mints. We’d go to kiosk after kiosk and store after store stocking up on our families’ favorite holiday sweet. But we didn’t stop there. Once I saw the amazing food that Hickory Farms had, we made sure to stock up. Once we returned home, we would sit around the table eating our goodies from Hickory Farms and laughing together.
When Hickory Farms delivered their Family Favorites box last week, it immediately brought be back to my house in Atlanta seated around the table with my family.
But now, I was seated around a different table with my family including my daughter who was enjoying it just as I did nearly 25 years ago.
And just like that everything had come full circle. Who knew all it took was a box filled with great snacks? Hickory Farms did.
