Last week the girls and I made a quick trip out to New Jersey to visit our storage unit. Making the move from Florida (where we had a house) to NYC (where we now have a small apartment) meant that we had a lot of stuff we couldn’t part with, yet had no room in our apartment to keep it.

Along with all of our old house essentials I keep a lot of the girls stuff that they have either outgrown or haven’t grown into yet, in our storage unit. One of those items is a big girl bike that Harlan has anxiously anticipating us getting for almost a year. We told her that this summer we would get it out of the storage unit and put it together so that she could ride it on the city sidewalks all summer long. Lucky for us, Nissan let us try out their amazing new Pathfinder (more on that soon) for the weekend so we took it to the storage unit to pick up her bike.

After bringing it home I told Har that I couldn’t put it together until after I finished some work and Avery took a nap. She seemed okay with it at the time until she had to stare at the box sitting in front of her for an hour. She has very short patience (as any three year-old would) and took matters into her own hands. She opened the box, took everything out and attempted to put it all together herself. I was actually surprised with how much she accomplished on the bike. The seat, a pedal, and the handlebars were nearly assembled by the time that I sat down to help her.

Once we got it put together, it was time to take it for a spin. I’ll let the Story App from Disney finish the story. It’s so magical to be able to see true emotion in her face after this big milestone in her life.

We just got our toddler a Y-bike balance bike. I love seeing the joy on his face as he takes off on it. There is something about the freedom that a bike gives children that is so magical.
