Photographs capture the precious moments in our life. They are our lives forever documented and always available to look back on. As I have gotten older I have picked up a passion for photography. When I got married I scheduled my entire wedding date around our photographer and when she was available. I made sure to have our photographer booked well in advance for both my pregnancy and Harlan’s newborn shots. I’ve even recently bought a fancy new camera that I have absolutely no idea how to use, but would love to one day learn.

Last week Harlan and I had a girls day with the amazingly talented Jenny Sherouse of Jenny Sherouse Photography. We spent the morning doing girly things around the apartment.

After Harlan showed her around our apartment and showed off all of her books and toys, we hopped in a cab for a ride down to the West Village.

We took a stroll through the most beautiful garden at St. Luke’s Church {a NYC hidden gem.}

From the moment I met Jenny we immediately clicked. She is so down to earth and such a fun person to be around! We chatted throughout the day about our lives and how similar they were. She grew up in Florida {small world.} in a city only 30 minutes from where I grew up {even smaller world.} Jenny is a fellow southern girl trying to find her way around this big city. She is also a mommy to a 14 month old boy, so she knew exactly how to approach Harlan and make her feel comfortable. It was such a perfect day to spend with Harlan and I am so thrilled that Jenny could tag along with us.

I’ve never been one to like the classic posed photographs. I have always wanted more of a natural, more relaxed look. I didn’t even have to tell that to Jenny, I think she just knew, because I am elated with the way the photos turned out.

Thank you to Jenny for capturing some of the beautiful moments I share with Harlan. I am already thinking of my next excuse for you to come back and take more pictures of us!

Check out Jenny’s recap of our day on her blog!

If you are in the NYC/Tri-State area and are looking for a photographer make sure to check out Jenny’s website.

I’ll be in NYC with my best friend at the end of May. Are there any delicious places I need to eat at? So far we’re eating at Benihana and other than that, no clue.

I love both the urban shots (especially the ones in the cab) mixed in with the softer, more “nature” type photos.

Lauren, this is so precious! So happy that you had such a special time captured. I adore the ‘mommy & me’ concept meets a ‘day in the life’ style shoot here. You should make a book of these. xoxo, Meg
