Last week was a crazy week in our household. I was out of town for work on Tuesday and Wednesday and MacKay had to take over my mommy role while I was gone. This was his first time staying home with Harlan by himself and being responsible for all of the parenting duties. I wasn’t nervous about leaving him with Harlan and I don’t think he was either until he saw the long list of things to remember I left him.

Although he had a lot on his plate {between work and taking care of Harlan and the house} I did not receive one phone call from him while I was gone. I expected to get at least one asking me where something was or maybe a little bit of complaining about how tough it was, but nothing. Not a peep.

It was nice for me to be able to go away for a night {even it is was for work} and have time for myself. I read Water for Elephants on the train ride to and from without being bothered. I was able to sleep in a big bed stretched out all by myself and I could’t wait to enjoy a hot meal in silence.

When I returned from Boston MacKay thought that he could relinquish his mom duties, but I got sick and stayed in bed for most of the later part of the week and weekend. As I felt guilty for not being able to do anything, MacKay trekked on and didn’t complain once. He made sure Harlan was bathed, fed, and happy.

He even went above and beyond and took her and the pups on walks throughout the day and spent hours at the playground with her.

I am beyond blessed to have a husband that can take over the household at a moments notice and do it so effortlessly. Maybe I should leave more often… 😉

When was the first time your husband had to play the role of Mr. Mom? How did he do?

P.S. A big THANK YOU to Japter Inc. for installing my new fonts for me! If you want to make the big switch to wordpress or ever need any wordpress help, he is your guy!

Yay for great hubbies!!! I must say my hubby most always will step in if need be. He (and Mia) rely on me a lot, but it’s awesome to know he is capable of holding down the fort.

You’re so lucky that he did such a capable and terrific job! Mine would do it if needed, but the truth is that I very rarely went anywhere that required it. Just little naptime jaunts and stuff.

I could totally relate to your story. I just left my DD with my hubby for 3 days – the longest ever. He did fine. Glad all went well with your hubby, too!

It’s always nice to get away (even if it’s work-related) and be able to eat, read, and sleep in peace. But it’s not so nice to be sick afterwards… are you better now? And Mackay…. What. A. Keeper!

It’s so nice to have some time away for yourself. That train ride sounds amazing! Maybe I’ll just take a train ride to nowhere to read a book. I’ll look really odd when I don’t get off at any of the stops. 😉

Yay – it’s so awesome knowing that your husband can handle it all, and then some, isn’t it? Cute pix, and hope you’re feeling better now!

Last August was the first time I’ve left my husband alone with the kids – for two days and two nights while I attended BlogHer! Our daughter just about 2 years old and our baby was 3 months. And they all did GREAT! I can’t wait to attend it again this year – only this time I’m leaving them for three nights and four full days! Yahoo!

My husband does a great job taking care of the kids…but the house is usually a war zone! At least is priorities are in the right place.:) He always tells me when I return that the house would burn down without me. It is nice knowing that they do need me! LOL

Impressive!

After I got married to Harv, he didn’t have to play Mr. Mom until I went out of town last year on a retreat. He had to get her ready for school, cook her dinner, fix her hair, all that. He did it so well, both my daughter and were totally impressed!

It is all about teamwork. How great is that you can be confident everything is going well while you are away. BTW – totally love Harlan’s Paul Frank pjs. We love monkeys in our house.
