We’ve been itching to get out of the city for a little while now and there is no better time of year than now to go for a weekend road trip to check out the fall foliage.  MacKay has been planning this trip for months and while he’s kept most of it to himself, I couldn’t wait to see what he had planned for the entire family.

Saturday morning we packed up the rental car and headed for a scenic drive through Connecticut.  We hit historic towns including Woodstock, Canturbury, and Brooklyn.  The scenic drive was beautiful and it was so great to see historic homes decorated for Halloween and scarecrows out in the front yard.

Our final destination for the night was Mystic, CT.  A gorgeous small town right on the water.

We shopped for a little bit before hitting the famous Mystic Pizza, which was home to Julia Robert’s first movie. After dinner we had a great time sitting on a dock watching the boats come in. Such a relaxing and peaceful evening.

The next day we headed back towards New York for a little apple and pumpkin picking at Dr. Davies Farm.  We visited last year and it quickly became on of our favorite places to go during the fall.

Last year, Harlan was just over a year old and didn’t really understand the concept. This year she got really into it and wanted to pick all of the apples herself.

After picking all of her apples, she wanted to celebrate her success!

Before we knew it, two hours had passed and Harlan was finished with the apples and ready for pumpkins!

We took a little tractor ride down to the pumpkin patch where Harlan got to pick her very own pumpkin to take home!

And of course my sister and I couldn’t leave without having a little fun ourselves!

The weekend was great to unwind, unplug and relax with my family. It felt amazing to get out of the city and explore a new part of the north east that I’ve never experienced.

Looks like fun. Especially for Harlan. I love the pic of her eating the apple. Too cute. Why did I not know there was an actual Mystic Pizza? Cool!

So like perfection! By the way… that picture of Harlan sitting down on the grass should be on a card or in a catalogue or something. It’s so sweet!
