Last weekend we took a quick step out of reality and took a little staycation at The Carlyle, an iconic hotel in New York City’s Upper East Side. It’s always fun to pretend like you’re a tourist in your own city, especially when you are sitting right on Madison Avenue and have the most perfect view of Central Park. It’s like seeing New York City through a completely different lens.

The girls always love staying at different hotels so that they can explore and see new things. This stay was a complete treat for Harlan because she got to experience one of The Carlyle’s newest children’s package, The Super Adventures of Sophie at The Carlyle: The Super Sophie Experience.

We got to experience the city through the eyes of Sophie, who is the main character is the popular books The Super Adventures of Sophie and the City. Our room was pure elegance and outfitted with so many wonderful Sophie surprises that Harlan couldn’t wait to get her hands on. I couldn’t wait to sneak a bite of the the Sophie cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery (their icing is heavenly.)

Not only did we get some sweet treats, but the girls also got two signed copies of “The Super Adventures of Sophie and The City: All In A Day’s Work” and the latest book: “Grand Central Escapades.”

Harlan, my girly girl, couldn’t wait to put on the Lulu Frost exclusive Sophie necklace. I think Harlan especially liked these because all of the charms represent special places that Har loves about the city.

The centerpiece of the room was the gorgeous bed up against fabulous wallpaper. The bed was adorned with a Sophie pillow just for Harlan. It had her favorite color purple and was the perfect touch to the bed.

One thing that can make or break a hotel room is the bed. But not this bed. This bed was dreamy. So much so that we loved just packing all four of us on it just to sit and relax and spend time together. Quiet moments are rare in our family, so to just lay down with my little family meant the world to me.

As if my daughter couldn’t be anymore technology obsessed, she was then introduced to her very own iPad mini that was hers to borrow for the weekend. It comes equipped with the Sophie app that includes “The Super Adventures of Sophie and The City: All In A Day’s Work” and will read it aloud to you. It also has a virtual map of Manhattan of all of Sophie’s favorite spots around New York City.

Not only was our room filled with the best goodies, but we had absolutely amazing floor to ceiling windows that gave us the most spectacular view of  the city.

That night after a leisurely stroll around the hotel and a nice family dinner, we came back to the room so Harlan could indulge in her cupcake from Magnolia. These cupcakes are a must try if you are ever visiting the city.

It’s always the little things that hotels do for you to make you feel special. They set out Kiehl’s baby products for Avery and even set up slippers on each side of the bed. The slippers were a big hit with the girls.

After a long day full of fun and adventures, these girls ready for bed. I think these girls could get used to this whole hotel living thing. They seemed mighty comfy in that big bed.

As the girls slipped away into dreamland, I sat in my bed with this incredible view outside of my window. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was the last thing that I saw as I drifted asleep.

I fell asleep to an amazing view and woke up to another spectacular view the next morning. It was breathtaking.

We had a chance to check out The Carlyle’s breakfast buffet, in the restaurant downstairs. The service was impeccable and the food was divine.

Rather than walking straight home, we took the scenic route through Central Park. Spring is one of our favorite seasons in the city and it’s also a season that makes the park look absolutely gorgeous. The flowers are blooming and the ducks are finally making their way back to the ponds.

We sat and watched the mini sailboats for a while before finally heading home and saying goodbye to our incredible mini vacation in the city.
