The girls and I boarded a flight late Friday night for a trip home to Florida to attend my little brother’s high school graduation. We’ve had this trip planned for months and I couldn’t wait to get back to the Florida sunshine after what has seemed like the longest winter in NYC.
I love going back home to see my family and to enjoy some of the suburban life, if only just for a few days. I also enjoy many of life’s little pleasures that I took for granted when I lived here.
Publix is the greatest grocery store ever. If only I knew that there would never be a grocery store in NYC that wouldn’t even come close to the amazingness that is Publix. I had a sub, drank their sweet tea, got a free cookie for Har, and had fun grazing the aisles without fear of running into anyone due to lack of space.
It was glorious.
A trip home wouldn’t be complete without a stop at my favorite store of all time. My parents watched the girls while my sister, cousin, and I spent more than enough time in Target. I went in with nothing specific to get and left with so much. We have a Target in the city, but it’s not easily accessible. I made sure to leave extra room in my suitcase because I knew that I was going to be making many trips to Target while I was here.
Saturday evening was Trevor’s graduation party. My mom did such a wonderful job preparing everything and decorating the house for everyone. I couldn’t wait to dress the girls up in their outfits that I was lucky enough to receive from Fawn Shoppe. Kristin is a mama of a precious little girl and she lives in NYC. She started the luxury online boutique, Fawn Shoppe, and hand picks all of the items on the site.
I’ve had these outfits in their closet for weeks and was itching at the chance to get the girls to wear them. Saturday turned out to be the perfect day for it.
Harlan has worn this tutu almost everyday since I’ve received it in the mail. She would sleep in it, put it on over her uniform when she got home from preschool, and she begged me to wear it out nearly everyday. She was thrilled when I told her that Saturday was the day that she got to wear it outside and show it off to everyone.
This dress was absolutely perfect in every way for little A. She was a little sunshine and shined wearing it. The Jess Brown doll that was custom made and was donning the same dress as Avery. That doll went everywhere with her that night. And rightfully so, it was her twin.
If you love the girls clothes as much as I do, I’ve partnered with Fawn Shoppe to give away a gift card to one lucky winner! You can enter here.
Apparently we didn’t get the memo that it was a pool party. I think we were a little overdressed for the celebration.
Avery’s newest trick is to put her fingers in her ears likes she not listening to you. My sister thought it would be a good idea to join in on her fun.
These cake pops from New York Cake Pops are my absolute favorite things in the world. I get them for every special occasion. I surprised my mom and my brother with them for the party. They were gone before the party was even over. She will ship anywhere. Order them. You won’t regret it, I promise.
On Sunday we took a family trip out to the beach. It was such a gorgeous day and Harlan and Avery had such a great time. We spent most of our time in the water because the temperature was absolutely perfect.
The last time that we went to the beach, Avery was so scared of both the water and the sand. This time around, she couldn’t wait to sink her toes into the sand and splash around in the ocean.
Harlan had her floaties on the entire time and went back and forth from the water and building sand castles. That girl is a little fish.
She’s been in the pool every single day since we’ve been at my parents. The first thing she does when she wakes up in the morning is put on her swimsuit to go swimming. Our goal this summer is to help her learn how to swim. She’s built up a lot of courage just in these few days alone. When we got here she was terrified to go off of the steps. Today she was jumping in all on her own. I am so incredibly proud of her.
We go back to NYC tomorrow and the girls and I will miss all that Florida has to offer. We’ve had so much fun with family and celebrating my brother’s accomplishments! We can’t wait to get back down again later this summer.
Hope you had a great weekend!

Thank you! Yes, grew up in Tampa and now live in NYC. Love going back home and visiting.

I’m from Florida, lived in CT for four years, and am now back in Florida. (The winters up north are just too much for this girl- I need my flip flops in December and vitamin D!!)
I too didn’t realize what a gem Publix was until I moved away. Every time I’d go back to FL to visit, I’d stock up and stuff myself on Pub subs. And yes, actually having room to move around the stores seems like such a luxury now, doesn’t it?
That, and Chick-Fil-A were my biggest misses.
Found your blog by following #americanblogger on instagram (who I found through OhDearDrea.) I’ll be following along!

What part of Florida? I really do love coming back to visit. Thankfully the winters here in NYC haven’t been that bad. I love Publix and miss it every single time I go to the grocery store. They really do have the best subs ever. Thank you for following along! Welcome! 🙂
