I always thought that my dating life was over once I got married. I’ve found my true love and will live happily ever after.

But my dating life really just began when I got married. The purpose of dating is to get to know the other person and find out whether or not you two are compatible. MacKay and I already have the latter part figured out, but we want to continue to get to know one another along the way.  I’ve picked this man that I want to embark on a journey with for the rest of our lives and we need to learn how to do it together.

Reality is that dating is hard after you get married. Life can easily get in the way. Now that we have two little ones runnings around, the nights we have to ourselves would rather be spent laying on the couch watching a movie than hitting the town. But it’s important that we do get out and have some time for just the two of us, without the kids in the other room. Our relationship is the foundation of our family and it’s vital that we do what we can to strengthen that foundation.

This month marks the sixth year anniversary since MacKay said “I do.”  In those six years we have moved, welcomed two beautiful little girls, and have grown in our relationship in ways that we never imagined. But with all of the craziness that life has thrown us in the past six years, it’s taken a toll on our dating life. We just don’t date as often as we’d like.

I am so happy to have the opportunity to get our dating life back on track with the help of HowAboutWe. HowAboutWe is a company that helps people fall in love and stay in love. It started as an online dating site, but has since expanded with HowAboutWe for Couples. The couples site features wonderful dates, tailored for two, for those already in relationships.

As a member of the site, MacKay and I were able to browse a collection of dates offered all over New York City. Many of the dates were experiences that we had never even thought of. Our dating routine usually consists of dinner and a movie, HowAboutWe goes far beyond that.

For our anniversary, we chose two HowAboutWe dates in one for a super date night to celebrate six wonderful years. We started out at Noir, where we enjoyed a delicious five course meal with cocktails and champagne (don’t worry, mine were non-alcoholic) while having great conversation and enjoying the decadent atmosphere.

After dinner we were whisked away to the pier for a sail along the Hudson River where we cuddled up underneath blankets, sipped on wine, and enjoyed views of Manhattan unlike anything I have ever seen before.

New York City is magical, but it’s even more dreamy at night. If you have never had the chance to take a look at the city skyline or the Statue of Liberty at night, do it. Believe me, it’s a sight that you will remember for the rest of your life. Truly extraordinary.

MacKay and I woke up the next morning to the sound of two little girls calling our name and that’s when we realized we were back in reality. But it sure was nice to step out of it for a night and focus on just the two of us.

Throughout the rest of the year MacKay and I will be doing a total makeover on our dating life. We’ve already started planning more dates! I’m thinking I have to take MacKay to the pickle palooza. It’s like a pregnant woman’s dream come true. We are also thinking a broadway show, a picnic on Roosevelt Island, learn a new language, and maybe even a guided tour at The Met.

HowAboutWe has so many options to choose from and the best part is that they have all of the details taken care of. They even offer a free concierge service to all of their members who will help you plan dates that just the two of you will enjoy!

You can sign up for HowAboutWe for free and start browsing dates! And right now they are offering my lucky readers $50 off your first date by using this link: http://bit.ly/1gaf0k8 (link applies to new members only, expires 12/31/13)

I can’t wait for you to follow us along on our journey as we get our dating groove back!
