It’s Wednesday! That means it’s time for you to tell me something good. Tell me one moment (big or small) that put a smile on your face. Let’s spread some positivity!

Avery started going to preschool five days a week, rather than the three days she started at the beginning of the year. While I love giving her this independence, it has left Macks a little bit sad in the mornings that he doesn’t have his play buddy around.

I’ve decided to take advantage of the time we have together and have started taking him out on dates, just as I do with the girls. He’s nearly two years old and is so much fun to be around. We’ve gone for breakfast, played outside, assembled trains, just quality time with the two of us.

I love watching him become this little person. He’s full of so much joy and laughter. That makes me happy.

Now tell me something good. Something that’s made you happy. It can be big, it can be small, just something that has put a smile on your face. Last winter, MacKay and I took Harlan skiing for the first time. It was the first time that we had been in many many years and while it took some getting used to again, we all loved it. So this year, rather than only taking a day to enjoy the outdoor activity, we decided to make a weekend out of it.

We stayed at a cozy lodge in Killington that was run by a husband and wife. The lodge had no cell service, television, and we slept in bunk beds. It was minimalistic, but so cozy and quaint and just what we needed for the weekend. It was quite perfect.

Just outside of the lodge was the perfect hill for sledding. We haven’t seen much snow in Connecticut, so the kids were so excited to get on their snow boots and suits and take their new sleds out for a test-drive.

Killington is a great place for skiers of all levels, so while I stayed behind on the beginners slopes, MacKay went to the top of the mountain to explore down the more advanced slopes. Avery and Macks stayed in the daycare on site while Harlan did an all day ski lesson. I managed to get zero photos of us sking, but it was only because we were having so much fun that I didn’t even think to document it with my camera.

We did manage to get the entire family together for a gondola ride up to the top of the mountain. It was an incredible view of the sno-capped trees. The kids couldn’t stop talking about the view.

And of course no trip to Killington is complete without getting waffles from Waffle Cabin. You can smell them as soon as you get to the slope and they smell so good!

Avery wasn’t quite interested in skiing just yet, so to give her a little time to enjoy the snow I took her on the little coaster they have the runs through the mountain. You can control the speed which is perfect (although Avery insisted we go full speed the entire time.) It was so much fun and can’t wait to do it again soon!

As we were packing for our trip, I soon realized how much stuff you need for a ski weekend. Skiing requires a lot of gear. Thankfully the wonderful people at Rent a Sprinter gave us a Mercedes Sprinter for the weekend. It had a separate compartment in the back that had a ton of space for all of our luggage and our ski gear. It was even complete with a hanging rack so we could hang up our ski suits and even a lockbox so I could lock up our stuff in the car while we skied. It was the perfect place for us to get our ski boots on and off each day.

The inside of the van was HUGE and came complete with a huge television (with a DVD player and Xbox) the kids took full advantage of and a refigerator which was perfect for us on our long drive. Because it’s not safe for the kids to wear their snow suits or jackets while in their car seat, I was able to fully stand up in the back and get them dressed and undressed before we got out of the car and into the snow or on our ride home. We couldn’t have asked for a better ride for the trip. Thank you Rent a Sprinter!

I love long weekends like this when it’s time we can solely focus on ourselves. Had is already planning her next trip to the mountain to go skiing. She can’t get enough. And I can’t get enough of this quality time we have together.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Last Friday night MacKay came home from work not feeling well, so rather than taking the entire family out for dinner like we usually do on a Friday night, I decided to take the girls while Macks stayed home with him. It was the first time in a long time that it’s just been me and the girls.

Both mentioned during dinner that we were on a date. They talked about how much fun they were having. We talked about school, our family, and just girl chatter that we don’t ever get to have. It made me realize that they are so much more grown up than I have admitted to. The conversations that we had between all three of us were real and genuine. They made me laugh and left me wanting more.

I am so thankful for this little family of mine. And the happiness and laughter that they bring me every single day.
