Growing up in the south, I was never accustomed to snow days. The closest we ever came to school being called off was for hurricanes. And for the most part, those were misses and we were able to go outside and play in the nice warm weather. These snow days are a whole different ball game.

For the past three weeks, the Northeast has been hit with a lot of snow. So much so that they’ve managed to call off three days of school. While I love being at home with the kids, being stuck inside with them for too long calls for a major case of cabin fever for all of us.

I was well prepared with arts and crafts for the kids, but what they really wanted was to run around and just get some energy out. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have a house and space that they can actually do that in.

A couple of weeks ago Razor sent over a bunch of their ride-on toys for our entire family, and while at first I thought that we wouldn’t get to be able to enjoy them until the weather got a little bit warmer outside, I found out that they make the perfect snow days toys to help the kids get their energy out.

Avery’s seen Harlan ride on a scooter before and was so happy to finally get one of her own. The Razor Kutie is the perfect size for her and I love that the unicorn comes out and can be used as a ride-on toy. With all of the practice that she’s getting inside, she will be a pro come spring.

I’m just going to put this out there…. I love this RipRider 360. I might have spent a while riding around the living room drifting and spinning in circles after the kids went to bed. It’s seriously so fun and had MacKay and me in a laughing fit because we were enjoying it so much.

Harlan is at the perfect age for it now and figured it out in a matter of seconds. It’s so much fun to watch her spin around and I cannot wait to see her do it in our driveway once the weather warms up.

The Twisti is the most adorable ride-on toy that all three of the kids love! Macks is a bit too young for it, but that doesn’t stop him from sitting on it and attempting to scoot along. I love that the eyes on the bee move back and forth as you move the handles to roll around the room.

These toys were just what the kids needed on the days that we are stuck inside. They allow the kids to get their much needed energy out and I can have a little bit of time-off not being the entertainer.

I am so excited that I will be attending Toy Fair, a show for those involved in the toy and youth industry, this weekend in NYC as the Razor Playful Mom. Follow along on Instagram to get an sneak peek at some new toys to hit shelves later this year!

MacksBday19

We celebrated Macks’ first birthday at a party at our house last Saturday. I’ve always wanted my children’s first birthday parties to be intimate get togethers rather than huge parties because I know those will be on the horizon before we know it.

Inspired by Macks’ room, I decided to go for a Woodland theme. I knew that many of the items that I purchased could double as decor for his room, so it was a win/win. 🙂

MacksBday16

I made this banner for Avery’s first birthday and keep adding letters as I need them. I have to say, for as much time as it took, it’s been totally worth it and I have gotten so much use out of it.

MacksBday15

Much of the decor I either already had, asked my dad to send to me from our cabin in Alabama, or bought from local stores.

MacksBday5

I bought this piece of wood from Michael’s and just sketched Macks’ name on it and decided to display it on a pair of antlers my dad sent me. It’s now on a shelf in his room.

These animals and logs were bought at Michael’s as well. The animals were used as a display on Macks’ shelf in his room and I brought them downstairs to use as simple decor. I love that when he’s old enough she can play with them.

The cutlery was left over from previous parties with the girls and I love these straws that look like a piece of wood. I bought them from Amazon.

His smash cake was a bit of a hassel only because I am not a baker. If you could see inside that cake you would see that it’s being “glued together” by a bunch of frosting. I didn’t mind it because I knew Macks was going to be digging his hands in soon enough.

These s’more pops were the best things I’ve ever tasted. Simply dip marshmallows in melted chocolate then in crushed graham crackers (that I colored green with food coloring to look like moss.) They were gone in a matter of seconds.

These acorns were super easy to make. With Hershey’s kisses, mini Nilla Wafers, chocolate frosting, and chocolate chips, just assemble and let dry.

MacksBday9

I love cucumber sandwiches, so made them and cut into trees to go along with the theme.

MacksBday11

These snails were simply rolled up breadsticks with carrots sticking out of them. Great snacks for kids.

I’ve long been an admirer of Gail from One Tough Cookie and her work. I approached her with my idea for Macks’ party and she made these gorgeous cookies. They were the stand-out snack at the party!

Easy caprese snack that were made to look like toad stools.

These “dirt” cups were loved by the girls. I used the left over graham crackers for a topping.

MacksBday27

Avery got into all of the sweets as soon as the party started.

MacksBday28

I couldn’t get a decent photo of Macks because he was always on the run. Running after his sisters of course!

My sister had a blast in the camper with Avery.

I bought this camper from Land of Nod and it’s the best. It is much bigger than I thought, but I can imagine many fun sleepover nights in it already.

This was the first time we’ve let him really have any sweets and he was in love.

Macks didn’t know what to think about the cake and us singing Happy Birthday, but he went with it.

MacksBday31

He had much more fun digging into the cake!

Macks,

Happy Birthday, baby boy! I remember the day that you were born like it was just yesterday. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year. You made us wait for you and went days past your due date. I was so frustrated to wait longer than I expected to welcome you into this world, but I can tell you that the wait was so worth every single second.

IMG_8577

As the first boy in our family, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. You’ve challenged me far more than I could have ever imagined and have opened up a part of my heart that I didn’t even know existed. It’s funny because you have been my most high-maintenanced baby out of all three, but you’ve also made me realized how much I adore this baby stage. Your non-stop desire to just cuddle and be with me is the most heart-warming feeling in the world.

This year with you has brought so much change into our lives, but the change is defintely for the better. I look at you and feel that I owe you so much for taking me on a new path in life that is exactly where I need to be.

IMG_7422

I am so lucky to be your mom. To be the one that gets to spend everyday with you. The one that you come to when you just need some comfort. To be the one that comes and gets you at two in the morning because you aren’t quite comfortable with sleeping alone just yet. To know that I am the one that brings a smile to your face.

IMG_7516

You’ve brought so much joy to your sisters this year. They’ve learned to love in ways that they’ve never known. Their selflessness and desire to make you happy is more than I could have asked for. And I know that you feel just as much love for them.

Macks, you’ve brought so many cuddles.

IMG_8932

And laughs.

And kisses.

IMG_1938

And smiles.

Jimeson2014_076

But most importantly, you’ve brought us so much love.

Jimeson2014_003

I admit that I was a little bit sad about you turning one. Part of me wants you to be my little baby forever. To stay just the way that you are. But I know that’s not only impossible, but it’s unfair not to let you flourish and grow up to be the incredible boy that I know you will be.

Tonight I tucked you in bed for the first time as a one-year-old. I rocked you and sang you a little song with tears running down my face and you looked up at me and gave me a kiss. Even at this age, you know exactly what I need when I need it. That is why I love you little boy. Thank you for making this year one of continuous blessings.

Happy Birthday, baby boy.
