It looks like all three of them chose the dark side this year when it came to Halloween. The girls have been quite obsessed with the Disney movie, Descendents and wanted to be both Evie and Mal from the movie. Macks, of course, chose Darth Vader from Star Wars because everything in his life revolves around Star Wars, Darth Vader, and the dark side.

On Sunday we went to our town Halloween festival and it was the first time I let the girls get fully dressed up, wig and all, in their costume. It was quite amusing to see that one they put it on, they got fully into character.

And Macks went full on Darth Vader for everyone. As soon as someone pointed out that he was Darth Vader, he replied “I am your father.” Best. Response. Ever.

Shortly after getting fully dressed for the town Halloween festival, Avery decided she no longer wanted to be Mal, but Minnie Mouse instead. We compromised on wearing Mal to the festival and Minnie on Halloween to her school and while we are trick-or-treating. She agreed that would do. This morning she searched her costume bin for her Minnie Mouse costume from our Halloween party earlier this month, and that’s what she wore all day today.

Because we are a Star Wars loving family, MacKay decided to wear his Kylo Ren costume from Harlan’s party and I dawned the infamous Chewbacca mask and we went about our neighborhood collecting candy. This was Macks’ first real time understanding the trick-or-treat process and he couldn’t have been more thrilled for the adventure.

We came home, enjoyed a little bit of those sweet treats, and now all three kids are sleeping peacefully in their beds. It was a successful Halloween night!

Happy Halloween!

One of my absolute favorite things to do with the kids is go out on adventures. We have so much fun when we are out exploring together. Harlan had an early-release day from school today, so we decided to hit the local pumpkin patch to pick out pumpkins to carve this weekend.

Of course, they have to make everything interesting. We had all three pumpkins picked out and then Macks decided he didn’t like his anymore, so he wanted to pick out a new one. Then suddenly the girls didn’t like theirs either and had to pick out new ones.

I told them before we left that I wanted to get a picture. And the only one that complied was Harlan.

But of course Avery said she’d happilty take one by herself if she could style it the way she wanted.

And once Avery did it, Macks had to do it too.

And then I accidentally caught this shot and all was right in the world again.

That’s what makes me happy.

This weekend felt like it was officially fall. The leaves were changing and are now covering our yard and the weather is crisp and cool, with the need of a light jacket.

Living in Florida nearly my entire life, I never experienced fall until we moved to Manhattan. Now I can say that I am so in love with the season. Between the apple picking, the decorating, and the comfort food that is on a weekly rotation, there is so much to love about the season.

Last Sunday, I took the littlest of the three to the corn maze for some fall fun. Harlan was at a birthday party nearby, so we decided to kill the time by getting lost and looking for “monsters” in the corn. Macks had a hard time understanding that our mission through the maze was the find the “monsters” that were on the markers throughout the maze. He thought there were actual monsters in the maze and wanted us to carry him throughout. It took a little sweet talking to show him that there weren’t any real monsters on the maze. After that, he was as happy as could be.

We made it through the corn maze and captured all of the monsters rather quickly. The kids didn’t want to leave just yet, so it was a perfect opportunity for some photos. It funs to watch the way that Avery and Macks interact with one another. They spend a lot of time together during the day when Harlan is at school. They really do find the fun in anything they do together.

After the corn maze, we saw the opportunity to make our own scarescrow. We picked out his jeans, shirt, and stuffed him with hay. We named him “The Man,” but Avery said his nickname is “Manny.”

It’s very clear that Manny and Avery have a special bond.

And Macks proved there is no scarecrow too big for him to handle.

“Manny” now lives on our front porch and is “scaring” away everyone that approaches our front door.
