We celebrated Harlan’s birthday on Saturday. She’s been planning this party since the day after her 5th birthday party was over. She takes her birthday parties as serious business. After all, it’s a party that it all about her having fun with her friends and celebrating a wonderful occasion, so who can blame her?

This year’s theme was My Little Pony. With so many color options, we decided to not to limit ourselves to any one and went with a rainbow of colors for the decor!

I tried to incorporate all of the colors of the rainbow when preparing the food for the party. The kids especially loved the rainbow marshmallows. I made them for Harlan’s 4th birthday party and they were a hit there too. They might have to be a yearly birthday party tradition.

The cake was another Magnolia Bakery treat. We’ve used them every year and I never regret it. They always make my vision come to life!

The backdrop was a vision that I’d been planning for months and hoped that it would work.  It turned out better than I imagined. It was super easy and I only used three materials. I’ll put a tutorial up next week.

With rainbow confetti, My Little Pony figurines, and colorful tableware, the party tables were a rainbow of colors for the guests.

Hasbro was nice enough to send us these My Little Pony Equestria Girls dolls for the guests to take home as party favors. They were SO excited to take a little bit of the theme of the day home with them.

The party was originally supposed to be outside, but because of the crummy weather last week, we had to move everything indoors. But that didn’t stop the special guests from making it a fun party. Anna and Alice in Wonderland made an appearance and entertained the guests for the party.

New York Princess Party has a variety of Princesses to choose from and Harlan chose these lovely ladies. They came dressed and ready to have a great time. I don’t think a smile left any of the party guest’s faces at any point of their visit.

The played games, sang songs, got their nails painted, face paint, and read the girls a story.

The even posed with all of the party guests for photos.

And had some time for a chat while eating pizza.

Happy Sixth Birthday, Harlan!!

Halloween has taken on a whole new meaning since we’ve moved to the suburbs. The decorations have started to hit the neighbor’s yards and the girls have started their official countdown. Our little community goes big on Halloween and I feel like I should take part in their tradition by making the most out of the spooky holiday.

IMG_6360

This weekend I took the kids for a trip to prepare for all of the Halloween fun. We raided the costume aisle trying to find the perfect costume for each of us. Har wants to be a superhero this year. It’s the first year she’s moved away from anything princess or fairy, so I am loving every bit of the stuff she’s teaching me about her favorite super heroes.

IMG_6359

Avery and I found the silliest hats we could. Mine wasn’t much of a costume as it was a totally true statement. 😉

IMG_6358

Macks decided it was a better look for him.

IMG_6357

A couple of weeks ago Harlan told me she was wearing a wig with her super hero costume, she found this Elsa wig and thought it would be the perfect addition. I knew she would find a way to get some princess in her costume somewhere.

IMG_6356

And my sister found the perfect costume for her. It’s a good look, don’t you think?

IMG_6354

Elsa and Anna are together again. These wigs were bought almost immediately and put on the second we bought them. They stayed in character the entire car ride home.

Along with the spooky decor and costumes, we also needed to stock up on treats. Our street gets a lot of trick-or-treaters While most people think about Halloween is just about the candy, we’re switching it up this year and handing out some delicious cookies to mix it up.

IMG_6352

The girls have to bring snack to school everyday and because their schools are allergy friendly, we have to pack them a nut free snack. I discovered Bitsy’s Brainfood while on a recent trip to Target and they’ve quickly become their favorite.

Bitsy’s Brainfood was started by two moms who wanted to get kids excited to choose healthy foods. And so they made healthy fun. Bitsy’s Brainfood don’t hide the fact that there are fruits and vegetables in their cookies. They just make them in alphabet shapes and taste delicious. All of their cookies are nut-free and  packed with whole grain vitamins and fruits and veggies. They have flavoris like Orange Chocolate Beet (the kids personal favorite,) Sweet Potato Oatmeal Raisin (my personal favorite,) and Zuchinni Gingerbread Carrot.

While shopping on Sunday, we found Bitsy’s Brainfood in a Spooky Snacks Multi-Pack, which is perfect for Halloween (and bonus it was 15% off with the Cartwheel app!) We’re ditching the Halloween candy this year and passing out these delicious treats along with non-food items for those with allergies. Kids will get enough candy for Halloween, so why not give them some delicious cookies packed with healthy foods to counter-balance the sugar high?

And to celebrate Bitsy’s Spooky Snacks Multi-Pack available at Target, they want to give you a chance to win a $50 Target Gift Card! To enter, fill out the form below.

semiproper-disclosure-1 IMG_1168-2

I used to think I was hard on myself, but it wasn’t until I became a mother that I would critque myself and my actions more leaving me vulnerable.

I’ve been open about my love/hate relationship with my post-baby body.  I know that staying active and fit is (and has been) helpful in me not only feeling better about myself, but also looking better as well. Working out has become a part of my life. It’s become something that I actually enjoy doing. It’s the one time in my day that I’ve dedicated to me and only me.

IMG_1198-2

As I work on doing the things that I love, the kids have learned from it as well. They regularly get involved in my workouts when they can. Har will ask me what I did at the gym and will run home from school telling me that she did an exercise move she’s seen me do before.

IMG_1250-2

Our active lifestyle has made an impact on the kids and it’s encouraged all five of us to get outside and have fun.

IMG_1310-2

But while I maintain an active lifestyle, there’s one thing missing from really becoming as healthy as I can be – and that’s my diet. I’ll be completely honest. I love food. I love all food. I tell people that I work out just so I can eat all of the food that I love. And that’s somewhat true.

I know that many of the foods that I eat don’t have the best impact on my body, and I’d love to see what eating better not only does to my physical body, but with the way that I feel. And it’s because of that that my friend, Roo, and I are co-hosting a DietBet. And we want you to come and join us. This video will tell you all about it:

We are starting on Monday and would love for you to join! Here’s the link to join.

And while you’re working out and getting fit, you need some stylish and comfortable activewear to do so. We’ve teamed up with Crane & Lion, a women’s activewear brand that brings both fitness and fashion together. All of the activewear Roo and I will be wearing during our DietBet is Crane & Lion. And don’t be surprised if we wear it out with no plans of working out (because they are that comfortable.)

We want to give YOU the chance to win a Crane & Lion top and bottom of your choice to help you get started on your healthy and active journey. Fill out the link below to enter.
